“I wanted to change it up and record a downtempo chill song on electric guitars. I thought Leo would be the perfect collaborator both musically and generationally. We wrote and recorded Openings in March after returning from filming I did in Nepal, India, and Thailand for my Reflections (single).
Shambhu expressed his excitement about working with Leo: “I am happy to introduce Leo to new audiences. I was fortunate to study jazz arranging with him online during the pandemic. During the writing of my album Life Passage, Leo gave me great arranging advice. This was the first time we played music together.”
This track marks Leo's first foray into new age music. He said, “While finding and recording Openings, Shambhu talked about the idea of leaving space in the music so listeners can fill in the blanks. It’s cool to step into a new genre and expand the circle of what I do.”
Both Shambhu and Leo are alumni of the Manhattan School of Music, adding a shared musical foundation to their collaboration. Openings will also be featured on Shambhu’s upcoming album, Reflections, set for release in Fall 2024.
