Personal Writing

It Starts With One

It Starts With One

Every large thing starts with one small thing. One note. One conversation. One decision made in a quiet moment that no one else witnesses. This is true of music, and it is true of everything worth building.

I think often about the single listener — the one person who hears a piece of music for the first time and feels something shift inside them. That one person is the whole point. Not the millions. Not the charts. Not the algorithms. The one person who needed exactly this music at exactly this moment.

When I make music, I try to hold that one person in mind. Not as an abstraction, but as a real human being — someone sitting somewhere, perhaps tired, perhaps searching, perhaps needing something they cannot quite name. I make the music for them.

If the music reaches one person — truly reaches them — then everything was worth it. And often, one becomes many. But it always starts with one.
